This is the Cave of St. Ignatius, after which this festival is named. There was a priest watching over the saintly guy. Every year, during the night between July 30th and 31st guanajuatenses make their way up this hill/mountain, which is lit up with coffee tins burning with small flames. Young people bring tents and beer, camp out during the night, and get drunk the next morning at dawn. Not sure what this has to do with St. Ignatius, but sometimes you don’t need a reason to climb a steep hill in almost pitch darkness, spend the night at 3000 meters above sea level, and drink before 5am in the morning.
