After a sweet week in Mexico City, last Thursday I took a five hour bus ride north west to visit Guanajuato, which was the home base city for my Amigos project exactly four summers ago. I just had to go back and visit this stunning city a second time. Even after four years it remains one of my favorite cities. As soon as I got into my hostel, Casa de Dante, I made friends with the boy who worked at the front desk, Dante himself! His family owned the hostel (and named it after him!) and he invited me that night to climb the hill/mountain on the southern side of the city for the yearly Fiesta de la Cueva de San Ignacio. Why not?! Here’s a shot of where the trail goes from easy walking to a crazy, 70 degree incline. Yes, that’s an ambulance, just in case any drunkies miss a step and slide down the side of the mountain.
