OMG I saw this guy yesterday coming out of Widener. He was still wearing the crocs and an orange shirt with big white polka dots.
on my tumblin that I don’t even know where to pick up. For starters, I’ve left Mexico and have been in Chicago for the last week. I’m here for just another 6 days before heading straight back to school. 10 interviews, 6 days. Pull yourself together Tran.
IT’S FINALLY TIME. The moment I’ve been waiting for, for many many moons.
In 1 hour I will pick up my first guest from the airport for the Sevilla reunion 2K9. 8 more will arrive over the next 24 hours and this house will be packed with giddy girls.
It’s time to dust off my Espadrilles and give my liver a pep talk. I need to stretch out my arms because I’ll be talking with them for the next 3 days. Most importantly, I GET TO SPEAK SPANISH AND NOT GET CRAZY LOOKS (like this evening when I slightly eavesdropped a family at Café Sushi and then exclaimed loudly in spanish “AHA! You’re from Spaaaain!” as though I was reading the verdict in 3 month murder trial).
I’m. So. Excited.
Yesssss! So pumped. See you tomorrow!!!
you should check out the blog of my roommate’s summer project! Ellie is in Kenya for the next few weeks piloting a project she designed for a class this fall (I know! I guess science concentrators do class projects that are actually useful and relevant to life!). I don’t understand it that much, but from Ellie’s explanations and the blog itself, it appears that Vertigrow is a device that will enable people to cultivate food crops in areas where arable land is limited (i.e. slums, refugee camps, etc.) I think the idea is very much like an individualized urban garden, which will allow hungry, impoverished, and displaced people to eat fresh and healthy food that they can grow themselves. I found the photos and descriptions of the contraption (posted on August 4) most useful for understanding the project. I hope you’ll check it out and be inspired!
One of my amazing roommates talking about another amazing roommate. I live in awe. One note though, Rach—isn’t Ellie technically an African Studies concentrator, not science?
The view from my room in Casa de Dante. This is the best hostel that I’ve ever stayed in. It was like living with a really welcoming host family instead of staying in a hostel. Dante’s mother was wonderful—she always offered me fresh fruit and helped me fix up my sandals when broke just before I was about to leave the city. Dante himself was awesome. He gave me heads up on the films that were playing that weekend for the International Short Film Festival in Guanajuato. What a perfect weekend to be in the city, I love film festivals! I ended up hitting up a showing, and even though I usually really enjoy international/self-consciously indie films, these shorts were just too weird for me and I ended up leaving early.
